EcoDesign was established in 2009. However, its founder (Mr. Rigzin Namgyal) has been involved in the passive solar construction business for the last ten years. He was a member of Shesyon Solar Earthworks (SSE), the first institution that started the use of solar energy for construction in Ladakh in 1993. During his stay at SSE Mr. Namgyal took part in all stages of the projects, from design to construction and was the team leader in the execution of Spituk Primary School, Army Sadbhavana Centre and Army guesthouse in Kharu.
Mr. Rigzin Namgyal used his experience and expertise to create EcoDesign with the objective of making passive solar buildings available to Ladakhi people. EcoDesign has a team of architects and designers whose main objective is to achieve the excellence level that EcoDesign has set.
Construction in Ladakh is a difficult business. The construction season lasts six months only and more often than not some materials have to be brought from far away. That’s why EcoDesign has a Research and Development unit that continuously searches for ways of improving the design and construction methods in order to make it affordable for everyone.
The company has experience in building both small and large constructions. We are engaged in making Ladakh a better place while preserving the environment.
